The Diaper Chronicles : A Lesson In Aerodynamics
August 17, 2007 @ 1:41 pm by Pressed
Here is another fine story in the diaper chronicles involving none other than my mother-in-law (MIL). She decided to change Josiah’s diaper once again and so she put him up on his changing table in his bedroom at home. She took steps necessary to avoid the tragedy that happened last time. Unfortunately the baby had other plans.
When she had Josiah all cleaned up she lifted his legs up to put the new diaper on him when suddenly he had what I can only describe as EXPLOSIVE poo. Josiah shot poo all the way across the room. In fact it hit his bedroom door. It was all over the floor, the changing table and just about everything else that was in his path was covered in poo.
Kendall heard her mom making a ruckus in the other room and then heard her yelling, “get in here, the dog is going to eat the poop! HURRY!” Needless to say my MIL spent a little time cleaning up the floor and the door, and washing a few items that were caught up in this little adventure and my dog got a tasty treat. *blah*

All Is Well In Baby Land (Except For The **possible** Colic)
@ 9:01 am by Pressed
We went to the doctor yesterday to get baby Josiah checked. He has had a couple things happen that we were not all that certain about and so being the over sensitive, super cautious, nervous, new parents that we are, we decided to give the doctors office a call. The pediatrician decided that she needed to see him, so we took the baby to Union yesterday.
The short side of the story is Josiah is a perfectly healthy baby boy with a touch of colic. She checked him over really good and all is normal. He has gained another 9 oz for a total of 10 lbs 9 oz at the super young age of 2 and a half weeks old. She said that whatever we are doing we need to just keep doing because he looks good. That was a relief. The unsettling part about all of this is the colic.
Around 7:00 p.m. every night Josiah becomes super restless. He can’t sleep. He can hardly be comforted. He screams and cries, and fusses until almost Midnight when he has worn himself out and falls asleep for several hours. Our pediatrician believes he has colic. Something that he will grow out of, but something we will have to live with for awhile.
Unfortunately for us, last night Josiah’s schedule was all off. Going to the doctors office yesterday and then spending the evening at his grandma’s house really messed up his little internal clock and so he hard the hardest time sleeping at all last night. Once he woke up it would take almost two hours to get him back to sleep. Then he wouldn’t sleep very long before he was up again. That makes life miserable.
The good thing is he is a healthy baby boy who continues to grow. He’ll be three weeks old this Monday. I’m still having trouble processing the idea that he is already here. It is hard for me to believe that I’m a daddy… I still look into his face and wonder…”whose child is this???”
P.S. He totally looks like his mom. Lucky little guy…
**UPDATE** I’m not all that convinced that he has colic yet. He doesn’t seem to be on a consistent pattern and he is able to be consoled. I’m thinking it may be something else. Kendall is eliminating a few things from her diet per the doctors orders (and per the request of a few blog readers). In a few days we will see if that has helped at all.

The Diaper Chronicles
August 7, 2007 @ 12:42 pm by Pressed
The good thing about Mother in-laws (MILs) is their desire to help with the baby and to show those who are new to parenthood how to do certain things (or in this case how not to do things!) Many new parents learn by trial and error. They try something, it fails miserably, and so they try something different the next time until finally something works. In my mother in-laws case she showed us how not to change a diaper.
Josiah was laying on the bed in the hospital while my MIL was trying to change him. Having had a boy of her own I would have thought that she would know the ins and outs of changing a little boy. She pulled off his diaper without thinking and as soon as the cool air flowed into the unmentionable areas of baby Josiah a solid stream of pee went flying into the air like a fountain. The stream shot straight up into my MIL’s face and unfortunately she had her mouth open at the time. It was in her eyes, up her nose, in her mouth, in her hair, on her shirt, and she was so embarrassed that she grabbed the baby’s clean diaper and covered her face with it. (Speaking of embarrassing… don’t tell her where you heard this story *wink* *wink*).
This was a major highlight in my week. Every time someone new would come in to see the baby I would say, “tell them the story about how Josiah peed in your face!” That is one moment in time I won’t soon forget!

Wish I Could Sleep As Much As He Does!
August 2, 2007 @ 5:18 pm by Pressed
Baby Josiah pretty much sleeps all day long. He wakes up about every two hours to have something to eat, and then he sleeps for another two hours. Maybe once a day he will open his eyes to look around (he is already learning how to hold his head up and turn it). This lasts for a good 10 minutes before he falls asleep again.
I, on the other hand, am running on very limited sleep. In fact, within the last 35 hours I have only had 30 minutes worth of sleep. Kendall too. It’s been a hard week and last night was a particularly hard night. I’ll talk about why that is in my next ‘password protected’ post.
We are being released tomorrow and I just hope that I would be able to get some amount of sleep. At least enough sleep for my body to function tomorrow when we bring the baby home. We’ve got a lot of packing to do, which means when we get home we will have a lot of unpacking to do. Kendall can’t do anything and I don’t think Josiah is up for the task of helping out either.
I’m not sure what will happen if tonight is as bad as last night. I’m not sure that my body will even function anymore…
