Book It: I've Been Tagged!

Christopher tagged me for this and lo and behold I actually read his blog today. Here it goes:

1. Grab the nearest book.

Like Christopher I have two books near me as well. My Reformation Study Bible and Archaeology of the Land of the Bible by Amihai Mazar. To keep things interesting I'll choose Archaeology.

2. Open the book to page 123 and find the fifth sentence.

Let's see, the fifth sentence on page 123 is:

In EB III (Straga XVII-XVI) the steep slope west of the city wall was leveled by constructing a 4-m-deep fill on which a 800 sq m public building, possibly a palace, was built (Building 3177; see later).

3. Post the text of the next three sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

A massive terrace wall or inner fortification separated the latter from the sacred area farther to the west, where a large temple (4040) and a circular alter were constructed.

Major changes were undertaken in the late EB III period (Stratum XV), when Building 3177 was replaced by a new structure, possibly a ceremonial gate, with a monumental staircase leading from the mound's easter slope toward the sacred area in the west.

In this latter area two new temples were erected next to the earlier one. Area BB at Megiddo and large areas exposed at Yarmuth are the best illustrations of the superb quality of EB III urban planning and monumental construction.

4. Don't dig for that 'cool' or 'intellectual' book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
