Old Testament Archaeology In Kansas City

July 23, 2006

This week I am in Kansas City, MO at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary taking a class called Old Testament Archaeology. The professor is Chet Roden. I'm taking the class for elective hours, however, I have always had an interest in archaeology. This class is a study of the significance of archaeological discoveries for understanding the Old Testament. The book we are supposed to read is Archaeology of the Land of the Bible: 10,000 - 586 B.C.E. written by Amihai Mazar. Unbeknownst to me, I was supposed to have the book read before I came to class. Unfortunately I don't even have the book yet and won't be able to get it until tomorrow. Guess I have a lot of reading to look forward to this week.

I've been married for only four and a half months and this will be the longest time I've had to be away from my wife. We had planned for her to come down with me, but it didn't work out. I'm here in Kansas City working on school and she is at home trying to take care of our new puppy that we've had for only two weeks. He is 9 weeks old and his name is Calvin (named after John Calvin of course). Right now he is a little terror, so hopefully she can handle him.

I'm looking forward to class this week. It's been awhile since the last time I've actually been in a classroom. I've been finishing up my degree with directed studies and other classes that don't require me to go anywhere. After finishing this class and the other class that I am currently working on, I will have only 2 hours left to complete my M-Div. The end is near!

I'm sure I'll be quite busy this week with school work, but I will attempt to keep up with my blog each day. It's been awhile since I've actually been able to consistently post every day. Here lately it has been only once or twice a week, if that. I will try to do better.
