Mobile, AL M-Fuge 2006 - A Day Of Missions **DAY 3**
July 11, 2006
Today was the first day of mission track sites. My group went to the Salvation Army in Mobile. We did the creation story, had crafts, and played games with around 30 little kids at the Salvation Army day camp. Our students got right in there and worked with those children, played with them, and loved on them for several hours today and it was pretty cool.
I also got to have some longer conversations with several of the M-Fuge staffers today. I talked to the director for a good 20 minutes at the mission site today and I had a conversation with the camp pastor for awhile this evening as well. Out of our 6 years of attending M-Fuge this one has had some of the most outgoing staff members who want to reach out to both the students and adults. I've never had as many opportunities to get to know the staff than I have had this year and I think that speaks well of the heart and passion of this camp. It shows that they actually care about you as a person, which is important to me. (or maybe it is because I am newly married and have a super awesome wife who is extremely gorgeous and outgoing and she draws them all in and they just have to put up with me, but they are really more interested in talking to her.) Either way, I've been impressed.
We also did 'The Amazing Race' tonight. We ran (or walked super fast) around the campus, going to different stations and choosing between different tasks to complete before receiving the next clue. It was fun, but I could barely keep up with the 32 other teenagers who were moving at super fast light speed. I'm so sore now I can hardly move... Tomorrow will be worse I'm sure.
No problems today. I got to hear from our teens and they seem pretty excited and happy about all of the things that they were able to be a part of this afternoon. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

I've gone on mission trips with youth groups (as an adult leader, not church staff) for several years. I've done M-Fuge and Youthworks. I really liked the M-Fuge, but once I tried the Youthworks program I realized I'd never recommend going back to M-Fuge.
Check out youthworks at http://www.youthworks.com/
(I do not work for them, this is not spam - I am a regular reader (lurker) and thought you'd be interested.)
