It Has Begun (Youth Summer Schedule)

June 05, 2006

Summer for our Youth Ministry has already begun. We've kicked off this summers activities with a car wash over the weekend to raise money for our mission trip and then with a fish fry at our house just to hang out last night.

On Friday I spent all day getting ready for the car wash, dealing with some youth issues and problems and then made hospital visits that night. Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. I arrived at the church to start the process of getting ready for the annual youth car wash. A couple of years ago we attempted to double our efforts at the car wash by selling BBQ. This increased the amount of work that it takes to put together an event such as this, but it also doubled and tripled the funds we raise for the mission trip. We cook about 200 pork steaks, 100 hot dogs, and serve them with chips, potato salad, baked beans, and both fountain soda and can soda. I think one of the greatest things about it is the fact that you can sit down and eat BBQ while the teens wash your car... its a two for one deal! The only downside for us was the fact that there were at least two other car wash fundraisers going on in our town the same day.

On Sunday we had leftover BBQ and we offered it to church members after the 8:15 a.m. service, after Sunday School, and after our 10:45 a.m. worship service. With that we sold almost all of our BBQ and made an extra $200 to $250 just offering the leftovers.

On Sunday night Kendall and I invited our youth group over to eat fried trout, fried taters, hush puppies, and fried biscuits. We sat around, played games, talked, and ate... it was a good time and quite relaxing after a tough day of working at the car wash the day before.

P.S. If I don't see another pork steak for a few months, I wouldn't be sad.

Wow, that looked like fun!

I've been on a diet for the past three weeks that features pork steak so prominently, so I'm completely with you on your food comments.

By the by, I've moved. If you can update your blogroll, I'd be pleased as punch.

God superbless!
