The Hit And Run

May 04, 2006

Today Kendall and I saw a hit and run in the McDonalds parking lot. We had just pulled in to go through the drive through when this truck started to back up and go out the wrong direction. The guy backed up, then pulled forward, then backed up again, then pulled forward, and then backed up really fast and slammed into a bright yellow Meeks lumber truck leaving a fairly large dent. During this whole ordeal Kendall and I are sitting in the car right in front of him just staring and several people are coming out of McDonalds looking at him.

The man gets out of his truck, walks over to the Meeks truck and looks at the dent. He then looks at the back of his truck, gets in, and takes off down the road. We did manage to get his liscense plate number and told the driver of the Meeks truck what had just happened.

While it is a bummer that this guy backed into another vehicle the fact is he tried to pull out going the wrong direction in a one-way parking lot which left very little room to back up, and then when he saw the dent he decided to flee. I felt sorry for him since he was an older guy, but then again why didn't he just go tell the guy and deal with it?

We don't know what happened after that, but we imagine that he was contacted and the situation was dealt with. Just another interesting day...
