D-Day + 2

Craig and Kendall's wedding has come and gone. While they are away in Hawaii on their honeymoon, Craig has asked me to fill in for him on AE. With the exception of the excruciating pain that my back and feet went though during the course of the ceremony, the wedding went great. Not that I'm any expert on asthetics, but I thought that everything was decorated nice although it would've been better if the turkey decoys that Craig and I placed in the plants had remained (the new mother-in-law wasn't too happy when she found those). I'm sure that Craig and Kendall will share their own personal reflections on the wedding when they return. In the meantime, here were some of the highlights that stand out in my mind:
Highlight #1: The moment that hit me the hardest and resulted in a large volume of tears throughout the church came as a result of a message from our friend, Ron DeClue. Ron is a good friend of mine and Craig's who was unable to be in the wedding due to the fact that he is currently serving in Iraq. Craig and Ron were in my wedding and Craig and I were in Ron's, so when we found out that he was being deployed, all of us were pretty bummed. Fortuanatly, Ron was able to leave a message on video that was played during the wedding. Ron's message was heartfelt and moving and caused a great deal of tears for all of us who are close to him and miss him a lot.
Highlight #2: The singing was excellent. The music for the wedding came courtesy of our music minister, Evan Aldridge, friend Kim Brown, and Kendall's aunt (whose name I can't remember). All of the songs were had spiritual significance and were performed by unmatched talent. I was thankful for it because it allowed me to temporarly forget the pain in my feet.
Highlight #3: Revenge. A wedding shouldn't be a place to settle scores and exact revenge, but I admit that I took a sadistic pleasure in spreading shoe polish and muck all over Craig's car. Craig, enjoy yourself trying to get that crud off. I still have green and orange flecks of nastiness on my Grand Am.
Highlight #4: Above all, the spiritual presence in the ceremony is what meant the most. Throughout their engagement and pre-engagement, Craig and Kendall have given careful attention to conduct themselves in a manner worthy to the calling of Christ. This carried over into the wedding ceremony. It was further exemplified by the completion of their True Love Waits committment and the replacement of their True Love Waits ring with a wedding ring. I see a lot of people that enter marriage for the wrong reasons or with a shallow spiritual committment. As a friend, it pleases me and gives me confidence to see Craig and Kendall building their new relationship on a solid foundation.
There was a lot more to talk about, but I'll leave that to Mr. and Mrs. Tanner (that is still sounding odd to me).
