Spam And My Love-Hate Relationship
March 07, 2006
Spam is from the devil. Satan himself has seized the opportunity of the internet to not only spread deadly and destructive free porn to households throughout the world, he is also the author and perfecter of spam, that nasty little annoying thing whose goal is to fill your e-mail and blogs with piles of junk on a daily basis. Ok, maybe I am being a bit extreme here, but come on people what is wrong with you? The reason spam works is because people actually click on the links. What on earth is wrong with you, quit clicking on the links! If no one in the entire world would ever click on any of the links that came in spam or junk mail, it would be an unproductive waste of time and they wouldn't do it. I guess it is too much to ask that everyone in the world just ignore their spam and thus those who are sane have to put up with the garbage.
My blog has been getting beat down with spam over the last couple of weeks. Upwards of 40 to 50 spam messages a day are put into my comments throughout my entire blog, but it is too bad and so sad for the spam bots who keep dropping their loads of garbage into my website because I have comments set up to need approval before they are actually published. I love the fact that I can set it up to block all comments until I approve them, but I hate the maintenance it takes to actually approve the comments. I want people to be able to comment and see each other's comments and respond, but half the time they are waiting on me to come in and approve the comment and the momentum of commenting gets lost and yet I have to do something to combat the evil, sick, dirty spam lords who want to spread their slime into my life. So here I sit, deleting spam, approving real comments, and wishing there was a better way. I used to be able to approve comments and from that point on they would be able to comment without needing approval, but for some reason that doesn't work anymore. Thus, I drone along in this pitiful existence growing more and more disgruntled with the whole deal.

I think maybe I figured out how to allow people I trust to leave comments without having to be approved. This pleases me greatly.

I'm sorry...I know that's frustrating...and I'm still getting about 10 spam comments a day even though I discontinued Inkblots two months ago!
And thinking about blogs, why wasn't there a little wedding countdown clock somewhere on the sidebar? That would've been cute...but then again, I haven't seen those on any blogs run by guys. Maybe it's a girl thing.
Send Kendall my well wishes...
