Daily Bible Journal V

April 14, 2004

Today I read through the entire book of Philippians for the second time and wrote down things I found about God, Jesus, and the Spirit. Philippians is my favorite of the prison epistles, especially the first chapter. I've written a series of 5 sermons on the first chapter of Philippians, and that is only to verse 26. After writing them I realized that several of them could be split up into more sermons with a little more fine tuning. It is a great and very practical book. Anyway, here is what I found:

God is our father
God has begun a good work in believers
God will bring that good work to completion
God gives us salvation
God exalted Jesus
God bestowed upon Christ the name above all names
God works in you
God works according to Hispleasure
God bestows righteousness on those with faith in Christ
God's peace guards our hearts
God is the god of peace
God supplies needs
God is rich in grace

Jesus gives the fruit of righteousness
Jesus was in the form of God
Jesus humbled Himself
Jesus was in the form of man
Jesus is Lord
Jesus was obedient
Jesus was resurrected in power
Jesus makes us His own
Jesus is our savior
Jesus transforms our bodies to be like His
Jesus subjects all things to Himself

Our preacher here just got finished with a sermonn series on Phil. Seems like we have been there a year! (Maybe we have!) You are so right with your findings- I have seen the attributes of God presented here in a fresh and exciting way. Even in His jugdement he is so intimate with us. Great research, Pressed!
