What Is Up With That?
March 28, 2006 @ 11:02 am by Pressed
I was in the process of getting a rental car for my upcoming trip to Texas and discovered that trying to rent a car at the ONLY car rental place in town “Enterprise” is a big time waste of money. They tried to rent me an intermediate size car to the tune of $290 for a 4 day trip. I went to my trusty friend, the internet, and looked up rental cars in the St. Louis area and found the same car all day long for only $117. That is a $173 difference in the price of rental cars people! It is worth it to me to drive to St. Louis pick up the car and then take it back up for that amount of money. It just goes to show how much they rip you off in a small town when there is no competition. Needless to say I rented a car through Avis in Chesterfield and I’ll just go pick it up and drop it off.
Yesterday Christopher and I went to St. Louis. I had to make hospital visits and he had to buy a new video camera. We went over to Circuit City and found a nice 3CCD camera for a low, low price of $549 with a free bag and tri-pod. Christopher purchased the camera and we were on our way. I then decided to go to Best Buy and look at their price knowing that Circuit City claims to match any price around. We walked in and found the exact same camera, brand new, for $449. I couldn’t believe that they had it in there for $100 cheaper, holy cow! We took our happy little selves back to Circuit City and told them about the cheaper price and guess what… they wouldn’t match it. The manager looked the price up on the website and said that since Best Buy didn’t list that particular camera on the internet that they couldn’t match the price. What the….?
We promptly returned the merchandise to Circuit City, got the money back, and went to Best Buy to purchase the camera $100 cheaper. While purchasing the camera at Best Buy I mentioned the fact that Circuit City was giving away a free bag and tripod with their camera and lo and behold, Best Buy decided to go ahead a match Circuit City’s free bag and stand deal even though they were selling the camera $100 cheaper. So Chris walked out of Best Buy with a brand new camera cheaper than Circuit City with a free bag and some free tapes, and a big fat smile for getting a dang good deal. And that folks is what you have to do when purchasing expensive items, shop around, see what the deal is, and make sure you don’t get ripped off. Whether you are renting a car or buying a camera you may be able to save $100 or more, so check around and get the better deal. Don’t let them get you!

Love Won Out Billboards Are Vandalized In St. Louis
March 22, 2006 @ 11:04 am by Pressed
I was reading the paper a while back and saw an article on a group of roadside billboards that were vandalized. This of course immediately caught my eye, and even more so when I saw what the billboards were about. The billboard was bearing a photograph of an African-Amercian ex-gay man and it quoted him saying “I Questioned Homosexuality: Change is Possible”. This is only one of many of the billboards that were vandalized in attacks against the Love Won Out conferences that were offered in St. Louis on February 25th.
Exodus International placed these billboards in the St. Louis area in conjunction with the upcoming conference presented by Focus on the Family which is designed to offer help for people who struggle with unwanted same-sex attractions.
Gay activists are protesting this event, they have bombarded the church hosting the even with eggs, and now they are resorting to vandalizing billboards. All of this coming from a large group of people who are crying out for tolerance. It seems the people who desire tolerance are not willing to give it themselves.
I honestly don’t see why it is so offensive to help people who honestly want to get out of homosexuality. Believe it or not, there are people in the world who are struggling with these things and their desire in life is to get rid of these feelings. Do people not have a right to get out of homosexuality once they are in it? It seems like people who are ex-homosexuals are abused and tolerated even less than those who were never a part of it in the first place.
It is a sad day when the homosexual community resorts to breaking the law and vandalism to protest someone’s free choice, especially when they claim to be fighting for free choice themselves. I think this is a good example of the real face of gay activism. Many of them are not the hurt, scared, innocent minority of social outcasts that they make themselves out to be. If this was all about personal choice and sexual diversity then these Love Won Out conferences wouldn’t be a problem, but the issue is not about personal choice, it goes far deeper than that. The attempt to make their personal choice socially acceptable is quickly becoming a violation of others personal choice, and the tolerance they seek is clouded by the intolerance they give.
Lets face it. There are men and women out there in the world who are unsatisfied with their lives and no longer want to be a part of homosexuality. They have a right to change and that isn’t an offensive thing, that is life. It isn’t wise to resort to childish behavior and vandalism to try and prove a point, when the only message you are sending to the world is your own intolerance. The gay rights activists have just earned some more socially negative points in my book.

Back Home Again
March 21, 2006 @ 2:32 pm by Pressed
We are finally back home from Hawaii. It was a good trip, and for those of you wondering we were not on the island that flooded. It only rained one day while we were there although it remained overcast and dark all the other days except for Friday. The trip was awesome. We went to the beach, we went to the pool, we went snorkeling, we ate a lot of food, we went to the volcano, we saw several awesome waterfalls and we drove around the entire island {The Big Island or the island of Hawaii}. I will have lots of pictures to share with you as soon as we get our eight rolls of film developed.
The wedding was great, the honeymoon was good, and it is now really good to be home. I hate being gone, just because I like to have things organized and in control in my life, so this week is dedicated to getting my life back in order. We’ll see how it goes.
A comment on married life… It is different. I am not used to the idea yet, and it is strange to wake up in the middle of the night and realize there is someone sleeping in your bed. After a few moments of terror you finally wake up enough to remember that it is your wife laying next to you and then it’s all good.

Turkey Time

It’s getting to be that time of year again. Turkey time. A few mornings ago, my wife was leaving for work when she hollered for me to come outside. Just as I reached the door, I heared that sweet sound of spring. The gobble of the Eastern wild turkey. Unfortunatly for me, Missouri’s turkey season doesn’t start until April 24th. In the meantime, I will be heading to not one, not two, but three different states to turkey hunt until our season begins. In one week, myself and another member of Three Timbers Outdoors (our Christian hunting video production) will be on our way to Alabama/Mississippi to lay the royal smackdown on some southern longbeards. After that, my wife and I will be heading to Oklahoma with cameras and shotguns in hand to film a three day hunt with a few friends.
All of this traveling and hunting is being done in order to supply material for Three Timbers Outdoors. Three Timbers was started by Craig, Rick Thomas and myself with the purpose of giving glory to God through hunting and supplying Christian outdoorsmen with a tool that they can use to witness to their non-Christian friends. Although the experience of starting this ministry has been challenging and difficult, God has blessed us with some great people that are helping us and with some great hunts. In Alabama, we’ll be hunting with Wayne Burns of Alabama Whitetail and Outdoors. During the first three days of the Missouri season, Craig, Rick and I will be filming a hunt that is to be featured on Adventure Bound Outdoors (formerly on The Outdoor Channel and soon to be on OLN). As if that isn’t enough, we’re also collaberating with Troy Ruiz of Primos for our project. All of this is very exciting to us and we’re thankful for the opportunites that we’ve been blessed with.
Keep checking in with Three Timbers Outdoors as we bring regular updates on the progress of our turkey season. Also, be in prayer for us as we seek to bring the Word of God to outdoorsmen and women in need of a relationship with Jesus.

Block ‘Em All!!!

To quote a friend of mine, “There’s a special place in hell for pedophiles and people who talk on cell phones during movies.” Now, do I really believe that? Absolutely. I could be described as what some people might call a “movie freak.” I love movies and the cinema. Passionate. My DVD collection, which includes everything from Casablanca to A Fistful of Dollars to The Sixth Sense, borders on the ridiculous. My wife says that I have a sickness. With this passion for movies, you can imagine how much I hate it when my cinematic experience is defiled by some moonbat that not only fails to turn off his/her cell phone during a movie, but proceeds to answer it and talk to the person on the other end. It is for this reason that I am 100% in support of National Association of Theatre Owners in their pursuit to jam cell phone receptions during movies.
Of course, this is being met with staunch resistance from people who feel that they must be available at every minute of every day. Folks, no one is that important. The cell phone craze isn’t that old. What did people do before cell phones? I’ll tell you. They lived. Even in an emergency situation, I can’t tell you of one person who has died because they couldn’t be reached while watching a movie.
What is the purpose of a movie anyway? It’s a means of entertainment. Of escape. When you allow your cell phone to go off during a movie, you have committed a collosal act of selfishness by disrupting the cinematic experience of others. So, come on. You’re not that important. Neither am I. Blocking the cell phones is a good thing.
