The Washer, The Dryer, The Emergency Room, and Hawaii
November 30, 2005 @ 1:43 am by Pressed
Tonight I drove to St. Clair to drop Kendall off at school and then I went to Washington, MO to pick up our new washer and dryer from Lowes. Once I went in and picked up the washer and dryer I made my way over to Ashley Furniture to check out some new kitchen tables and bedroom sets. Once I finished there I went and picked Kendall back up from school and we drove out to her uncles house. Her aunt and uncle have time shares and so they are sending us on our honeymoon, but we needed to come over and pick out where we want to go. Kendall and I have agreed that we would like to go hang out in Hawaii and so we picked a few places and now we are just waiting until they find out where we can go. By the time we got home it was 9:30. Kendall’s dad helped me get the washer and dryer in our new house and then we went upstairs to do a little more painting for the evening. While painting Kendall gets up on the 6 foot ladder and as she tries to get down the ladder tipped on her, her foot got caught, and she came tumbling down to the floor, landing very hard on her foot and knee. We got her to the couch and then into the truck and took her to her parents house to get some ice on it and then an hour later we took her to the emergency room to get X-rays. It doesn’t look like anything is broken, but she does have a knee brace, her foot is wrapped, she is on crutches and she is in a lot of pain. She will probably be pretty sore in the morning when she wakes up, so I’m going to pick her up for work and help her into the car and into the building.
I just got home from the ER at about 1:30 a.m. and I am tired, but I still have some homework to complete. Good thing someone is covering my prayer meeting in the morning for me or I would really be beat tomorrow.

G-Yum Got Himself A New Blog
November 29, 2005 @ 3:30 pm by Pressed
It’s time to introduce you to another new blog in the blogesphere. I know that there are so many different blogs to read and there is not enough time in the world to read all the blogs that are out there and so to make your job easier I will occasionally let you know of a new blog in town that you will want to read. Jim Shultz (I refer to him as G-Yum every now and then) is a friend from college who posted on Avoiding Evil for awhile until the breakdown of our server. Now he has started a new blog called Knows Job. You need to go check it out, the first entry is up. Why haven’t you left yet? Go….

My Daily Bible Readings
November 27, 2005 @ 11:44 pm by Pressed
This morning I read from 1 Chronicles 23 and 1 Peter 4. This evening I also read from Micah 2. I’m on a quest to read the entire Bible in a year and my goal is to read three chapters a day, plus spend time in prayer after each of these chapters. I’ve decided that one of the best ways to retain what I read is to post it on my blog as I do it.
1 Chronicles 23 - David installs his son Solomon as king of Isreal and in the process he gathers and sorts the leaders of Israel, the priests, and the Levites. Here are some thoughts on this passage.
1. One awesome characteristic of God is that he gives rest to his people. “The Lord God of Israel has given rest to His people, and He has come to stay in Jerusalem forever.” - (23:25)
2. I must give praise, thanks, and devotion to God in the morning and evening. “They are also to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the Lord, and likewise in the evening.” (23:30)
1 Peter 4 - Peter speaks boldly about suffering in 1 Peter, with the underlining assumption that no true Christian can escape suffering. Because Christ has suffered in the flesh and died to defeat sin and death, so we must be of the same resolve. As Christians we should be willing to suffer in order to defeat the sin in our own lives. Denying the flesh and earthly desires is an act of suffering that takes tremendous willpower from the Holy Spirit to accomplish and in doing so we suffer as we deny our bodies something that it yearns for. To suffer in the flesh in order to be holy and pure is to be like Christ in suffering to conqure the sin that entangles us. Some quick thoughts on this verse:
1. I have wasted enough of my time running after the things that everyone else in the world runs after, it’s time I begin to chase after Godly desires rather than earthly ones. (4:3)
2. People around me will be suprised when I don’t plunge into the same lifestyle they find themselves drowning in, and thus they will slander me and yet I know that they will give an account to the Lord for the things they have done and thus I must stand strong. (4:4-5)
3. If I speak or or serve the Lord it should be in his strength, power, and for his glory that in everything it is the Lord Jesus Christ who is glorified and lifted up.
4. When suffering comes I should not be suprized, but instead I must share in the sufferings of Christ who is shaping me. If I suffer then I am blessed in honoring Christ.
Micah 2 - Thoughts on Micah 2:
1. Those who come up with and carry out wicked things are making their own bed and should be pitied for the judgment that will befall them. There will be no escaping the God of creation.
2. Though the people would be scattered, there will come one {Jesus} who will pass before the people. Our savior has come before us, and we like sheep know his voice and will follow Him.

The House Project
November 26, 2005 @ 11:14 pm by Pressed
It has been such a long time since the last time I’ve actually posted something and I fear it shall continue to be like this until the major house project is complete. Kendall and I have been diligently working on the house; painting, fixing, and cleaning. We’ve painted the bathroom, master bedroom, living room, and we’ve started the kitchen and still need to paint the second bedroom. We also found a broken floor joist in the basement and had to jack the house up to repair it. Unfortunately when we jacked the house up, the wall in the hallway buckled under the pressure and the tile flooring in the bathroom busted straight down the middle, creating that much more work. There is no ventilation in the kitchen and so we are working on installing a hood over the stove as well. Hopefully once we finish these things and I get my stuff all moved in then I will be back to posting on a more regular basis. For now, however, I must settle for only these brief updates.
