It is not a surprise that atheism has been around for a long time. Even back in ancient Greece, people said there was no God. Of course back then there was a pantheistic belief system (meaning there are many God’s), and atheism was simply a rejection of that belief.
Unfortunately about 40 years ago a woman by the name of Madalyn Murray O’Hair founded a group called the American Atheists. She had a part in fighting prayer in school, which of course was a battle that was finally won. This group that she founded has been known to provide literature and speakers to college campuses, have pride marches at the state capital, and many other things to promote their cause. Not only did she fight and finally won taking prayer out of schools, she also fought to take “in God we trust” off of the money, but she lost that battle. Madalyn Murray O’Hair has been called the most hated woman in America. In 1995 she, her son, and her grand-daughter all disappeared and were found 6 years later, murdered.
So what do Atheists believe?
They don’t believe in anything supernatural - god, heaven, devil, hell. They only believe in this world, the things that you can see and touch. Which means that after you die you just stop existing.
(The Following information comes from “Why so many God’s” by K. Etue.
Atheists think that:
Morals come from humanity, not from any religious code. They rely on communities to come up with their own moral code.
Evidence about the world and the universe is to be gained through science. Science cannot prove the existence of God, so there is no God.
Freedom from Religion: They believe that religion imposes too many restrictions on humanity. They reject the concept of God, and they want to get rid of all organized religion.
They also believe that more mistakes are made from ignorance than anything else. So they are all for people having access to all kinds of information. For example, they’re into minors having complete access to information about sex so they can learn about it before they make mistakes.
The cosmos is all there is. It is eternal and self-sustaining.
Evil is a reality, a necessary part of human evolution, but atheists don’t know how to deal with it.
Man does not have a immortal soul.
So what is the main attraction to this Atheism? Most people are attracted to the fact that you don’t have to be responsible to any higher power.
What is their main goal? Proving that God does not exist.
There are around 220 million worldwide professing Atheists, 1.6 million of those living in the U.S.A.
Did you know that these Celebrities are Atheists:
Woody Allen
Bill Gates
Seth Green
Angelina Jolie
Jack Nicholson
Fact: Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek who died in 1991, said that he purposefully created Star Trek to have a god-free, humanistic view of the universe.
The Problem:
Atheists would claim that because you can’t see God, hear God, or touch God he cannot exist. I cannot see wind, but I see it’s effects. I cannot see natural gas, but I know what it does, and I cannot see God, but I see what he does in my life and others lives who believe in Jesus Christ. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean that it does not exist.
An Agnostic is a person that knows there is a higher power, but has not really put faith in a God. An Atheist is a person who claims to know that there is no God. But in order for them to know that there is no God, wouldn’t they have to contain all knowledge? So if a true atheist is a person who knows for sure that God doesn’t exist, can a true atheist actually exist? Hmmmm things to ponder.
Pressed

A very sad, lonely, and empty existance I would imagine. No hope.
I do not know how someone can say there is no God. I see and feel his working in my life almost every day.
I always thought that there was something Godless and messed up with Star Trek (well….the original one anyway). I guess the empty and meaningless life of an atheist would also apply to the show. Empty and meaningless.
You should do a post on “American Christianity”:
Go to church every once in a while, once a month, every Sunday and still do what you want.
Give money, but never sacraficially give.
Divorce and remarry, because God wants you to be happy.
Go on mission trips to feel good and tell yourself you’re not so bad afterall.
Read the “Left Behind” series, because if you read it and generally agree with its message, then surely you will not be one of the left behind
I forgot to say that Star Trek was evil and no one should watch it! Sorry for the omission from my earlier comment. Those responsible have been sacked.
You may want to look up the definition of atheism. Atheism is not a belief. It is a lack of belief. You don’t have to believe that there is no god to be an atheist — you must simply not believe in God. The word atheist comes from the word theist, which means one who believe in god or a higher power (etc.) The a- infront of the word basically means that this word is the opposite of a theist.
There are two kinds of atheists. Strong (explicit) and weak (implicit). Strong atheists are the ones that beleive there is no god, and are who you have actually posted about. Weak atheists just do not hold any belief. All children are born atheists, since they have not yet been told about any god.
Agnosticism is not a third category. There are theist agnostics, and atheist agnostics. Theist agnostics believe that there is a higher power, but also that we cannot know it’s true nature. Atheist agnostics do not know whether there is a higher power or not (an therefore do not explicitly believe in one).
Considering all of this, I object to your calling Atheism a religion. Atheists have no religion. Your headings “So what do Atheists believe” and “Atheist think that” are incorrect, since atheists have no set beliefs whatsoever. It truly saddens me to know that there are people so opposed to something they do not know the meaning of.
P.S. — My life is neither empty nor meaningless, thank you very much.
P.P.S. — Most morals are common sense. I believe that killing people is wrong. And I don’t need any god to tell me so.
P.P.P.S. — I believe that your religion preaches tolerance. Should this not include religious tolerance? You do realize that there are hundreds, even thousands, of religions in the world, don’t you? Every child who attends public school is not a Christian. You are certainly free to send your children to a private school if you must have prayer in school.
I’ll leave you with a quotation from Thomas Jefferson (and a link to some others): “The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”
http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/quotes/jefferson.htm
Why don’t you find something that’s actually doing harm to the world to speak out about?
” Your headings …’Atheists think’… are incorrect.”
Enough said.
Ok Candice, I took your advice and I pulled out the ole Webster’s Dictionary to look up the definition of Atheist. Since you say it is the lack of belief then I figured I had better check it out.
According to the dictionary an Atheist: is a person who BELIEVES that there is no God.
If someone believes that there is no God then that person holds a belief. They may not believe in God, but that does not mean that they don’t believe something. I am sorry if you misunderstood me, but I never once called atheism a religion, but I most certainly think it is a belief.
Since you made me get out my dictionary, I decided that since it is just sitting here I might as well look up the word religion too.
Religion: 1. belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshiped as the creator and ruler of the universe. (This sense of the word is defiantly not atheism.) But just like all good English words, they often contain several meanings. Here was another one. 2. any object or conscientious regard and pursuit. (Hmmm this very well could be atheism in this sense of the word.) In the sense that Atheists conscientiously regard themselves as being atheists and constantly pursue that way of life then atheism becomes their religion (conscientious regard and prusuit) in this sense of the word.
Some more wisdom from the Dictionary:
an atheist rejects all religious belief and denies the existence of God. (if you deny the existence of God, then you BELIEVE he does not exist.)
an agnostic questions the existence of God, heaven, etc. in the absence of material proof and in unwillingness to accept supernatural revelation. ( I agree with you that there can be atheist agnostics and theist agnostics, thank you very much for pointing that out. I am sorry for my confusion of that on my original entry.)
I am well aware that atheist comes from the word theist. And if theist means one who believes in God then atheist means the opposite as you said, one who BELIEVES that there is not God. No matter which way you look at it, if you reject the idea of God existing then you hold a belief which means atheism is beyond any shadow of a doubt a belief, just like my trusty Webster’s dictionary tells me.
Wisdom from the dictionary? Hmm… Okay.
Your dictionary is incorrect. Check the word’s roots, and you will find the real meaning of the word…
The opposite of “believing in god” is NOT “believing in no god”. It is “not believing in god”.
Theist - with belief in god
Atheism - without belief in god
Think of it this way — if you’re not a theist, you must be an atheist. Everyone fits into one of the two categories.
I’d try searching the web. I found several pages within seconds that could explain this to you, but I’m certain that there are probably better ones.
Try http://www.public.iastate.edu/~zwinterw/atheism.html
or http://high-concepts.com/keep_the_reason/atheism1.htm
or
http://campus.fortunecity.com/defiant/666/what_atheism.html
etc.
You will find that apart from strong/weak, explicit/implicit, these two types of atheism are also referred to as positive and negative. Not all atheists deny the existence of god, just the existence of proof, which to them precludes belief. I fall into this category. There is no evidence to cause me to choose one religious system over another (i.e. most of them are just as likely to be true), nor to choose one at all.
Not all atheists even know that the idea god exists, therefore they obviously can’t be pursuing any particular way of life. Atheism itself isn’t a religion. I suppose strong atheism could be considered so in some cases, but since for the most part it is simply a lack of belief, there is no particular way of life to be pursued. You did in fact refer to atheism as a religion when you made it the first entry to your series which you titled “World Religions”.
I’d also reccommend a book to you entitled “Atheism: The Case Against God” by George H. Smith. Even if you can’t agree with it, it will give you a more accurate picture of atheism, and in the case of strong atheists, why they hold the beliefs that they do.
Actually in my first entry I said this:
“Every now and then I plan on posting some information on World Religions and other Worldly Beliefs that are contrary to Christianity.”
And since I still think that atheism is a belief it falls under that category, not necessarily under the category of religion so to speak. Sorry for the confusion. I changed it a little bit so that it will not be so confusing to others who may read it.
Well this has been a busy little blog. Candice, based on what you have said, it appears that you would consider yourself what was earlier referred to as an “atheist agnostic”. Would this be an accurate assessment? That you do believe in the possibility of a god or higher power?
For some solid proof that there is at least something out there, one only has to rationalize how our world/universe has come to where it is now. Whether you hold to the ideals of evolution or creationism is of no consequence at this point. I majored in biological studies in college and even had a class on evolution where this was discussed in depth, so I’ve had the opportunity to do my homework in this. Let’s just say for arguments sake that this world came to where it is now through a multi-billion year process of macro-evolution. We can trace life back to the first prokaryotic organism. And we can trace the lineage of that back to a lifeless pool that contained all the right conditions to bring about life from non-living protiens and such. Where did that come from? Well, carbon based molecules that formed together through a series of perfect events. Where’d the molecules come from? Atoms. Where’d the atoms come from?
My point is this: no matter what you believe about God, all logical deductions about the origin of life and the cosmos points back to the creation of it all by a higher power. Unless there’s something that I have missed or looked over, this is proof enough that there is at least a God.
While I’d really like to continue with this right now, I have to get ready for some projects at work tommorrow and then get some sleep, but I’ll come back to this later. In the meantime, I’ll check those internet resources that you have posted and search for some that may be of interest to you.
P.S.- I apologize if i offended with my “empty and meaningless” comment earlier. I hope that you won’t hold that against me.
Logical deductions don’t necessarily point back to a god or any sort of sentient power, though that is one possibility. They do point back to something, but I don’t believe that there’s really any way of proving what that something is. As for where the universe came from if it wasn’t created by a god, you’ve probably heard the question “where did god come from” in reply. This argument doesn’t really answer anything for either cause. If god can be eternal, with no beginning or end, there is no reason that the universe couldn’t have the same explanation, because we can’t currently understand the logic and science that would explain this in either case.
I do believe in the possibility of a god or higher power, but also that it’s more likely that there is another explanation for things. Humans have always created supernatural explanations to explain that which they do not understand. We’ve been able to explain away through science things like the seasons and the stars that ancient societies attributed to the works of deities. Just because we don’t now have a scientific explanation for the harder questions, such as the nature of our existence, doesn’t prove a higher power. It certainly doesn’t prove any PARTICULAR god, so that would cause me a little trouble if I chose to believe in one, anyhow. (Although they are for the most part based on one another — flood stories are found in much more ancient religions than Christianity.)
I don’t believe that anything is “supernatural” — if there is a higher power, I fully expect that it follows the laws of nature as well, despite the fact that most of the laws of nature are still mysterious to us.
“Question with boldness even the existence of a God, because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.” — Thomas Jefferson
Candice,
Likening the existence of the Universe to that of God are not the same. The universe is composed of matter. Matter must have a source, unless you consider the universe and God as one in the same.
Eariler you said that most morals are common sense. I agree that it seems like it is common sense. But lets say at the beginning of mankind, whether that be through evolution or creation, and someone tells another that murder is wrong, I can only imagine the other saying “By what authority do you tell me that murder is wrong? Who are YOU to tell me anything?”
Morals must come from an outside source. The very reason that there is so much pain in the world is that morals don’t come from man. The entire world is in rebellion to their Creator. If morals came from man, why do so many people not follow their own morals? If morals are of human origin, wouldn’t seem logical that it would be natural to follow them?
I understand that my logic is not perfect. I’m only asking you to consider it. Don’t be afraid to choose God. God realizes that there is faith involved. He loves you very much, and wants a realtionship with you. Yes, that’s right, God himself wants to know you just like your parents, or friends might know you. Neither side is going to prove the other wrong. If you must look at any evidence concerning the existence of God, and ulitmately the realibility of Christianity, you must look at the people who have been transformed. Listing all the tragedies that have been affiliated with “the Church” in the past will do no good. You must look at the followers of real, genuine Christianity, just as it is spelled out in the New Testament. The people posting on this blog I know personally and each one of them has been transformed by Christ. We each have a peace beyond understanding. It is my hope that you too will find it, it is found nowhere else but in Jesus Christ.
Religion is the opposite of rationality. Once you have enough evidence to choose a religion, it has become science. Therefore I choose science over irrational faith.
Common sense does not mean the same as universal sense. In some people, it is noticably lacking. And good morals do not seem to be related to whether or not one considers oneself religious or not, therefore I must hypothesize that we don’t need a god to tell us about them.
Everyone does follow their own morals. Even to do something we normally view as wrong requires following a higher priority moral (i.e. if you believe you should allow yourself to do anything to survive, you may allow yourself to steal food, even if you view stealing as wrong). There is no reason why we should all hold the same morals — we are individuals. The reason there is so much pain in the world is that people don’t agree on every matter. I don’t believe that it would be possible to survive if we did. Ethics and morals are more of philosophical matters than religious ones, and can also be tied to evolution and biology. You must admit that helping others when you have the resources is beneficial to a species. Animals other than humans exhibit this behaviour.
Being “transformed by God” means nothing. It is just as possible to change your life based on personal decisions. Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof, and it is the claimant who always holds the burden of proof. I can’t justify a personal belief in any higher power without sufficient evidence of its existence that cannot be attributed to something else. To do otherwise would be irrational. I have a peace of my own, but as is my way, it couldn’t exist without understanding. It comes from following myself — from knowing myself and my priorities well, and from coming to terms with my reality. I don’t need someone or something else to feel this.
There’s no greater argument for the existence of God than the truth of His existence. Atheists completely discount this truth, while challenging every true Christian to present proof.
Since it is impossible to prove the existence of God beyond the fact itself and beyond the overwhelming evidence in all of God’s creation, the type challenge atheists make to Christians is both a foolish challenge and an impossible task for the Christian.
Since atheists recognize that it is impossible to prove the existence of God beyond the truth itself and beyond the overwhelming evidence that they deliberately discount, they blindly and deceptively regard such impossibility as real proof that God doe not exist.
This deceptive principle has been exemplified time-after-time in courts of law. For example: A person commits a very heinous crime. All the evidence that prove the person’s guilt is presented in court by the prosecutor. The evidence overwhelmingly prove the person’s guilt.
However, the criminal denies he committed the crime, and his lawyers, while seeking to deceptively prove his innocence, do all they can to discount the evidence presented by the prosecutor. And while discounting the evidence, the defense attorneys constantly challenges the prosecutor to prove their client is guilty.
What the defense attorneys do is cleverly discount the evidence in the minds of the jurors and shift focus from the overwhelming evidence to challenging the prosecutor to prove their client’s guilt to the jurors beyond the evidence. This becomes an impossible task and the jurors are deceived into regarding this impossibility as an inability of the prosecutor to prove that the criminal is guilty. Therefore the jury regards the criminal as not guilty. Juries are deceived by this diabolical tactic all the time.

“We live in an unbelieving world! Many have accepted Satan’s lie that faith in God as the Creator of all things disagrees with modern science. Such could not be farther from the truth! Faith in the existence of God as Creator is both reasonable and in harmony with the facts of science. A refusal to believe that God created all things is very unreasonable.
Faith in God as Creator is reasonable because creation requires a creator. If one sees a lovely, well built house, he does not say, “I wonder how that house came into existence.” He knows that the existence of the house means that someone built it. This is also true of our world. The fact that it exists requires that there must be one who built it. “For every house is builded by someone, but he that built all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4).
Faith in God as the Creator of all things is reasonable because life can only come from life! Everyone understands that that which is dead can not produce that which is alive. In Europe during the Middle Ages, people were very ignorant. They believed in “spontaneous generation,” that is, that non-living things could give birth to living things. Louis Pasteur, a great French scientist in the 19th century, proved that spontaneous generation is false. Only life can produce life!
Let us make application to the world and the people in it. How did it come to be? There are only two possibilities. Either the world and all living things in it came from dead, non-living, non-thinking matter, or it came from mind, intelligence, life, therefore God. What do you think? Does a nest create a bird to sit in it, or does the bird, a living being, create the nest? Does a car make a man to drive it, or does the man who is living and intelligent create the car? It is totally unreasonable to believe that the earth which is filled with living plants, animals and persons was brought into being by dead matter. However, it is very reasonable to believe that a supreme, intelligent being, God, brought into existence the universe and the wonderful varieties of life which live in it.
It is also reasonable to believe in God as Creator because of the plan and purpose in the universe. The universe operates according to law. Scientists are busy discovering these laws which they use for man’s benefit. The order and design of the laws point to a mastermind who originated them. It is not possible that our orderly universe happened by chance. For example, the earth is 93,000,000 miles from the sun. If the earth were closer, it would burn up. If it were farther away, the earth would freeze. Did this just happen by chance? Or, did a living Mind, God, design this?
Did the complex universe which operates in such orderly fashion, according to definite laws, just happen by chance? Or, is it the result of an intelligent God who created it? It would be more reasonable to assume that the telephone directory of Sydney, Australia, a city of 4,000,000 people, just happened by chance than to assume that the orderly universe came into existence by chance!
It is reasonable to believe that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Only a powerful, highly intelligent God could have created the wonderful, complex world in which we live. Truly, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God” (Psalms 14:1).” - Ron Rutherford
Truly altruistic behavior does not exist in the animal kingdom as you have proposed. One of the great problems in evolutionary theory is the supposed altruisitc behavior by social insects: wasps, bees, and ants. How can “survival of the fitess” mesh with altruistic behavior. Its seems that some members sacrafice themselves to protect other individuals. Though on upon furhter examination, it is discovered that through sacraficing themselves for closely related individuals, they are actually perpetuating their own genes. The individual “knows” that their kin has a much greater chance of reproducing than themselves. So the sacrafice actually benefits the passing on of their genes. This principle is called “inclusive fitness.” You can read more in the works of Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson.
Now for humans. They often sacrafice themselves for the good of others with no benefit to themselves what so ever. Did this come about because we’re a product of a cosmic accident? I don’t think so.
Atheists do not in general believe in enforcing their views on everyone. There are those who do, but they are the minority.
For instance, I have yet to meet an atheist who actually believed religion should be outright banned. Eliminating prayer from American schools, and removing “in God we trust” from your money, is not a fight against religion. It is an attempt to level the playing field: how would a Buddhist feel about the phrase “in God we trust”? Not everyone in the US is a Christian.
Conversely, the religious right has done their level best to create a society ruled using their religious laws.
Atheists aren’t necessarily against Christianity, they just aren’t Christians. Ignore the hate that’s spewed out about us.
A couple of definitions:
Negative atheism is not holding a belief that there is a God.
Positive atheism is a belief that there is no God.
There is a difference.
if there was no God, why would humans have felt an urge to unite with a deeper meaning in the universe? Implying that they made it up would mean that they did it to fit a pre-existing need, creating a need would not make sense. If any physical part of evolution could cause humans to seek a deeper meaning, this means the concept of a deeper meaning is part of nature: thus it exists. I don’t believe atheists think deep enough. They are content in the statement “it’s made up” or “there is no physical proof”, just as fundamentalists are content with “it says in the bible/koran.” Don’t be satisfied with limiting yourself, think deeper. if you go far enough you will realize that the physical universe is merely a shrowd over a great spiritual power. trying to explain spiritual power by physical or psychological theories is just as much a mythology as Genesis. I do not believe atheism is truly evil however: it is limited or immature. Also they present the argue that the presence of evil means there is no God. They forget that evil does not trully exist, only ignorance and seperation from dharma. we could not have been created perfect, because if we were we would know nothing. we must travel the path to attain true self realization. God knows this, and few others. most atheists are also rebelling against traditional christian views…… when i used my wisdom my entire life i found that neither strict christianity nor atheism make sense. I am a Hindu although I deeply honor and perhaps worship christ. God is more than Christianity or the Bible…. realize God in your entire surroundings
And just because we can’t ’see’ pigs flying around (they’re invisible) doesn’t mean they don’t exist either…
I’m a humanist. I’m not sure your definition of Atheism is accurate - I don’t claim to ‘know’ whether there is or isn’t a god. However, I see no reason for there to be a God or gods, in order to make sense of the world or of morality. Science, though incomplete, does a better job than religion on this. God explains nothing… it just poses more questions, such as ‘who made him’.
I also believe that it is risky to sacrifice this life to the possibility of ‘afterlife’ of any form. If there is an afterlife, it’s a bonus.
You also need to define ‘evil’. If you claim that it’s anything that goes against the bible, then your argument is circular. If I was asked to define evil, I would simply exchange the word for ‘ignorance’. That’s the biggest evil, surely…
Bad things happen. Doubtless you would claim that the Tsunami in Asia was some sort of punishment or ‘test’…!!
Just because you see no reason for there to be a God, doesn’t mean there is no God. You assume that people have created the idea of God in order to make sense of the world. It may be true that people come up with ideas to attempt to explain what they can’t understand, in fact Science does that all of the time. Science itself has been proven wrong over and over again. It continues to change, develop, and find truth in the false claims it once held to. People believed the earth was flat at one point in life, but their belief didn’t make it so. When the truth was revealed about the earth being round, it changed the false reality that man had once held to. The benefit I see with Science is that it proves Christianity right as it continues to prove itself wrong time and time again.
I would have to disagree with your assesment of an afterlife being a bonus. If in fact Christianity is true and there is an afterlife, it will not be good for those who didn’t believe in Christ. I certainly wouldn’t consider that a bonus.
Now there is certainly no need for unfounded, attacks on the character of Christians. You make the assumption that Christains would claim that the Tsunami was some sort of punishment, which I find to be ridiculous. You know very little about what I believe and so I caution you on making assumptions and judgments based on your limited understanding of who I am.
THE ATHEIST AGENDA
Atheism is the search for truth, whether we like what we learn or not. Believing in a god is believing in ignorance. Athiests (for the vast majority) do not want children to be exposed to things (sex, death, crime) that they cannot comprehend. Although I cannot speak for all Atheists when I say this, I am FAR more understanding in terms of the actions of men and women than any religious being. I write this statements because of the rhetoric being spewn from Bush about how the U.S. must unite to stop evil. Deep down, I think religion had lost it’s true purpose, which is to provide people with strength and courage in times of darkness. To provide hope and encourage good will among humans. What a load. Religion has become corrupt. This war on terror is nothing more than bully-boy tactics at their worst, which wouldn’t be as bad if Bush wasn’t constantly saying that he has God on his side. When you think about, what good has come from religion? War, strife, suffering…anything else I may have missed?
The reason people become Atheists and choose science over religion is because they believe in truth, in logic. Every religion I have heard about is full of contradictions and evil (Christianity, in particular). I am an Athiest, so, according to your logic, that makes me a lonely, sad grain of sand on a seemingly infinite beach. But I don’t feel sad; on the contrary, I feel free as a bird. I wish that all of the world could just drop their religions (or, at the lest, their prejudice for other religions) and help their fellow man. We all need to become A LOT more selfless. Let the Homosexuals have marriage. What’s it matter? You can’t say it’s not normal, because that would mean you believe in the science of biology, and not religion. Religion has no clear opinion on the matter, so let the babies have their bottles.
Towards the statement by “PRESSED” : you make it sound like athiests are inhuman; we do not want minors to be exposed to sex early on. Everything must be taught in due time. Science is rejected by many religious people because It is, in reality, an anti-god weapon. If not for science, people would still believe that diseases and viruses are caused by an angry deity. Got a tornado on your hands? God’s mad at you. Kill a man? Go beg for forgiveness and your good. With time, science will answer all questions. If that means we find out that, for example, people were created by a god, than I will become a believer. But I will never convert to any of these atrocious religions that exist now. I finish here by asking one final question: what are all of you getting out of your religions? Think about that while I live a care-free life following the rules of man, and knowing that I will not be doomed to a life of reincarnations, damnation, eternal happiness (even humans need a little strife), or THE DEAD ZONE. Only wonderful nothingness. And if I have lived a fulfilling life, knowing that I’ve made the world a better place, I’ll die with a smile on my face.
