Under Re-Construction
December 30, 2004 @ 11:35 am by Pressed
Sorry folks! As you have probably noticed I have not posted anything on my blog for nine days. A couple months ago we got word that the hosting service we were with was calling it quits after dealing with the hurricaines in Florida. On that note we had to find another service, and over the last week or so Christopher has been diligently working to get all of our blogs back in order. There have been several issues, but slowly things are working out and I should be back to posting on a regular basis soon enough. I will be gone over New Years for our youth lock-in, and I will be gone next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for class in Kansas City. There may be some sparatic posting here and there, but after next week I hope to be back in the swing of things. Thanks for your patience!
We decided to go with bluehost for our all of our blogs, for our church website, and for some other websites that we have some connections with. The main selling point for us is the 2GB worth of space and the fact that they would host all of our domain names. If you are looking for a host that is cheap, has lots of space, and has an excellent technical support then you might want to look into bluehost. We have been on the phone with them for numerous things that they have helped us out with. I think once we get all of our blogs set up and ready to go that this will work out fine. When I say “we” I mean Christopher.

We also bought the latest version of Movable Type. This is also a mess trying to figure out how it works. I hope to have that worked out soon enough as well, I just need to play with it.

A Day Gone Wrong
December 21, 2004 @ 12:02 pm by Pressed
First I installed the newest update for the OS X software on the G5. A few minutes later I realized that I had a hard drive not showing up. The G5 has two 250 GB hard drives and both drives show up on the desktop, but after the install and restart the other drive was missing. This is curious indeed. So I mess around for awhile, trying to figure it out.
Secondly I lean back and my chair hits the Powerbook G4 that was setting next to the G5 and I knock it off the desk, causing some fairly severe damage. It’s dented and smashed and all that jazz.
Thirdly, I attempt to fix the G5 by doing what I have done several times with PCs. Apparently you can’t do that. I go in and unplug the hard drives and let them set for a few minutes and then plugged them back in. When I turned the computer back on it will no longer start up, all I get is a gray screen with a flashing world symbol, and after about 5 minutes the fans start speeding up, faster, faster, faster, and faster until I freak out and turn it off. What have a done? What have I done!!!

Problems with iDVD 4
@ 9:54 am by Pressed
I have a question for all of you Mac enthusiasts out there. I am having some problems with iDVD, and had the same problem with iDVD 3 as well. I have a PowerMac G5, Dual 2 GHZ processor, 1 GB of Ram, dual 250 GB hard drives and I am using Final Cut Express to edit video. After the completion of my videos I export them into self contained quicktime files and drag them into my iDVD creation. When I click burn it begins the process, but never finishes it. Usually it will get to stage 2 or stage 3 and never get any farther. Right now I am trying to burn a DVD and I am stuck on stage 2 indefinitely. Sometimes if I put another DVD in and try again it will work, but it almost never works the first time. This has happened several times and I have yet to find a solution to the problem. Any ideas?
**UPDATE** (10 minutes later)
I went to apple.com and found a forum about iDVD. This is what I found:
iDVD 4 may not successfully burn a disc on dual processor Power Mac G5 computers if Best Performance is selected in iDVD preferences.
Please update to iDVD 4.0.1. This update is also available through Software Update Preferences.
After you have updated to iDVD 4.0.1, it may be necessary to delete encoded assets from your iDVD 4 project.
I am happy to say that at the very moment I finished this post my DVD was succesfully created and popped out of the DVD drive.

The Wal-Mart Scam
December 20, 2004 @ 11:19 pm by Pressed
There is something just not right with this. The other day one of my friends brought me a Christmas present, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. The thing is, I already own Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, but I wanted Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. So, we never opened the box at all and he took it back to Wal-Mart to get his money back. Here is where it gets stupid. The person behind the counter at the service department took the unopened game, ripped it open, searched through the box, and then told him that he couldn’t get his money back because there was nothing wrong with the game. WHAT! He brought an unopened game back and they took advantage of him by opening it. So he ended up getting my Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 plus paying for that other game! I am really quite angry about this. I am considering taking this game back to Wal-Mart tomorrow and asking them why they did that to him.
Anyway, thanks Michael for the present, I love it! I hope we can get this Wal-Mart thing worked out…
**UPDATE - I took the game back. Got the money back. Michael is good. Peace out!
