    Thoughts On Kerry’s Speech

    @ 11:04 am by Pressed

The DNC had several big name speakers throughout the week who gave some powerful speeches. We all know Bill Clinton’s ability to woo a crowd by his masterful public speaking ability, and even John Edwards was able to carry his own. I, however, would have to conclude that John Kerry was the most disappointing speech of the week. This is a quick look at bits and pieces of the transcript of his speech and my thoughts on it.

“My fellow Americans: we are here tonight united in one simple purpose: to make America stronger at home and respected in the world.

The entire week has been all about attacking Bush, building false pretenses about America, and then saying “we will change it.” It seems as though Kerry is building his entire campaign on the idea that everyone hates Bush, so if he bashes the president enough and then offers his leadership that the people will vote for him. In doing so he does not deal with any issues. What Kerry will do when he becomes president is hidden or foggy at best. He offers very little solutions, little plans, faulty promises and an undefined change in America. His main tactic is backbiting and dirty politics. I mean the man couldn’t go three lines into his speech without attacking the current leadership. He attacks Bush by saying in a round about way that Bush has made us hated in the world and has done nothing to protect our homeland.

After several minutes of describing his childhood, where and how he grew up, Kerry slides in with another Bush attack. This time slapping the integrity of the president, calling him a liar. This is laughable coming from John Kerry, the lying, deceiving, liberal politician that he is and always has been. For a man who has flip-flopped, deceived, and down right lied to gain position as much as he has, to say that he will bring trust and credibility back to the white house is ludicrous. This is the same man who rallied against WMD and claimed whole heartedly that we must do something about them when it was a popular thing to do, but when it turned on the president he immediately did too, calling him a liar and switching his own position. This man went to Vietnam for only a few months and video taped himself, yes that’s right, John Kerry video taped himself and told people that he would not use the tapes for political gain, and yet they were used at the DNC as a political playing card. This is the same little rich boy who has fantasized for years about becoming the President of the United States and will do anything to ‘git er done.’

“We have it in our power to change the world again. But only if we’re true to our ideals - and that starts by telling the truth to the American people. That is my first pledge to you tonight. As President, I will restore trust and credibility to the White House.”

Kerry asks the people to “judge me by my record,” but I am fairly certain that he doesn’t actually want that to happen. Kerry is banking on the idea that you will not judge him on his record, cause you will never take the time to look at it. Kerry mentions a couple noble things that he has done, but he doesn’t mention his flip-flopping voting record, his 50 cent gas tax hike, the hundreds of tax raises that he voted for (not for the rich, but for YOU I might add), his support of abortion (including partial-birth abortion), his support of homosexual marriage, and the many other things that Kerry has voted for in his lifetime. He takes every opportunity he can get to mislead the people, and then takes another opportunity to bash the president by saying he would never mislead us into war like Bush apparently has.

“I will be a commander in chief who will never mislead us into war. I will have a Vice President who will not conduct secret meetings with polluters to rewrite our environmental laws. I will have a Secretary of Defense who will listen to the best advice of our military leaders. And I will appoint an Attorney General who actually upholds the Constitution of the United States.”

Kerry also takes the opportunity to build on what some American people may be feeling, whether it is actually true or not doesn’t quite matter. Kerry plays the economy card pointing out its weaknesses. What he doesn’t mention is our economy growing stronger and faster than it ever has for almost 20 years now. He doesn’t mention the new jobs created under the Bush administration. He doesn’t mention the strength built from the tax relief of the Bush tax cuts. He simply takes another opportunity to trash talk and run.

“And here at home, wages are falling, health care costs are rising, and our great middle class is shrinking. People are working weekends; they’re working two jobs, three jobs, and they’re still not getting ahead.”

I have yet to understand how the middle class can be hoodwinked into believing Kerry is their champion. The only benefit the middle class has to Kerry is that if he talks about helping them enough, then they will vote for him, then he can go back to not helping them just like he always has. Kerry is filthy rich, not middle class. He has been all of his life and to say that he can sympathize with those who are middle class or poor is not the case. No matter how many Democrats have come into the Presidency, the middle class remain to be middle class. Nothing changes, but unfortunately peoples desire to get more money sucks them into a political party that promises results that it is unable to carry out, ever. Sadly enough, even Christians will forsake values and morals to vote for a party that will get them more money. Kerry is a rich man who says he fights on behalf of the middle class, but I say he is using the hope of the middle class to get elected, the exact same way he uses his few months in Vietnam, his metals, and the video and pictures he took of himself to say he is a war hero in order to sympathize with the veterans and to claim he has the ability to lead our armed forces.

” on behalf of the middle class who deserve a champion, and those struggling to join it who deserve a fair shot; for the brave men and women in uniform who risk their lives every day and the families who pray for their return; for all those who believe our best days are ahead of us - for all of you - with great faith in the American people, I accept your nomination for President of the United States.”

I would like to take this moment to laugh again at Sen. Kerry and his deceiving tactics. He tries to sell his second wife as being the “strongest moral compass of anyone I know.” This is the lady who flat out lied on camera, got caught in the lie, and then told the reporter to shove it. If that is the strongest moral compass that John Kerry knows, people we are in trouble here.

Saying there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq doesn’t make it so. Saying we can fight a war on the cheap doesn’t make it so. And proclaiming mission accomplished certainly doesn’t make it so.

For Sen. Kerry, he attacks president Bush for saying there were weapons of mass destruction, but he himself does not apologize or say anything about himself who also claimed there to be WMD in Iraq. He holds the president to a standard that he himself will not live up to. It is sad, really sad. “so policy is guided by facts, and facts are never distorted by politics.” He promises the American people that the facts will never be distorted by politics, and yet his entire campaign is distorting facts in the name of politics. Let the deceiving begin.

“To all who serve in our armed forces today, I say, help is on the way.” The thing that Kerry doesn’t understand is that those who are serving in the armed forces today do not want Kerry’s help. They know Kerry for who he is, and they don’t want him as Commander and Chief. This is evident in the reaction of the soldiers Kerry met at Wendy’s the other day.

Earlier, their bus convoy pulled over at a Wendy’s fast food restaurant for a photo opportunity lunch that provided an awkward moment.

Spotting a group of US Marines, Kerry, who has made his Vietnam War service a cornerstone of his campaign, went over to chat. The Marines, who all turned out to be staunch Bush reporters, were not impressed.

“He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands,” one of them told reporters afterwards. “I’m 100 percent against” Kerry, he said. “We support our commander-in-chief 100 percent.” - YahooNews 2004

Kerry proceeds to attack Bush’s values, his principles, his tax breaks, his war policies, his healthcare, lack of help for poor people, his economy, and then has the nerve to say “Lets be optimists, not just opponents…Let’s build unity in the American family, not angry division…not small minded attacks” What the heck! Kerry, what have you been doing this entire hour? Exactly what you are telling Bush not to do… sheesh.

I want to address these next words directly to President George W. Bush: In the weeks ahead, let’s be optimists, not just opponents. Let’s build unity in the American family, not angry division. Let’s honor this nation’s diversity; let’s respect one another; and let’s never misuse for political purposes the most precious document in American history, the Constitution of the United States…My friends, the high road may be harder, but it leads to a better place. And that’s why Republicans and Democrats must make this election a contest of big ideas, not small-minded attacks.

Now he gives his economic plan. Kerry plans to cut the middle class taxes and instead tax the rich in order to create more jobs. Does that make sense to anyone else besides himself? Sean Hannity says, “I’ve never worked for a poor man.” I have to say that I haven’t either, people get jobs from the rich not the poor. So Kerry’s plan is to take money away from the rich and that is supposed to create new jobs… Doesn’t he see that we want the rich to have money? We want the rich to buy products, to buy houses, to remodel their houses, to buy luxury items, and to spend their money and not hide it in fear that the government is going to take it. Kerry’s plan is a flop. Does it ever occur to anyone that Kerry says he is for the middle class and will tax the wealthiest individuals who make over $200,000 a year, and yet its those individuals who will vote for Kerry? Isn’t it strange that Hollywood, actors, popular bands and people who are filthy rich will be casting their ballot for Democrat this year? Shouldn’t they vote Republican, since Republicans are ‘for the rich.’

“And let me tell you what we won’t do: we won’t raise taxes on the middle class. You’ve heard a lot of false charges about this in recent months. So let me say straight out what I will do as President: I will cut middle class taxes. I will reduce the tax burden on small business. And I will roll back the tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals who make over $200,000 a year, so we can invest in job creation, health care and education.”

A lot a fluff, a lot of attacks, and not a lot on what exactly he plans to do about the problems in America. Kerry is quick to point out the problems and fails when it comes to offering valuable solutions to those issues. The things that he proposes will cost America trillions of dollars, and where will that money come from? The rich people? Kerry’s pocket? I think not.

Here is what Kerry thinks of his own running mate:

“”In the Senate four years — and that is the full extent of public life — no international experience, no military experience…. When I came back from Vietnam in 1969, I don’t know if John Edwards was out of diapers then.”

    All In A Days Work

    July 30, 2004 @ 10:32 pm by Pressed

It started off this morning to be anything but a typical day. I woke up in a strange bed, in a strange house, with a strange beast lying next to me licking my hand. I bounced awake and took a moment to realize that I was still house and dog sitting for my pastor who is on vacation. The strange beast licking my hand was Beamer, the dog. I got up and immediately called the veterinarian and began to explain the problem. Not the fact that he was licking my hand when I woke up, but for the last couple days Beamer has been licking his side and gnawing at himself. I’ve told him to quit several times, but of course he continued. Last night I noticed that he had gnawed a little sore into his own flesh, which turned out to be a nasty looking little spot on his side where he has completely rubbed all the hair off and gnawed a bit of the flesh away. Not wanting the dog to eat himself alive I asked the lady at the vet what was going on and what I should do about it. She immediately recognized this as what they like to call a hot spot. This is a place on a dog where it has been bitten by a tick, spider, or some other insect and has started to itch. The dog immediately licks and gnaws at the itchy place until it basically chews a hole into its own flesh. This is common she said. So, she prescribed a steroid cream that I have to apply to his side a couple times a day.

Next on my list of not normal things for the day I had to go and do my last Chaplain visit at the hospital for this week. I went from room to room introducing myself to the new people as the chaplain on call this week and checking up on the patients that I had been seeing throughout my time. On my way out I realized that I had missed a room and went back to check on this fellow before I left the hospital. Unfortunately for me this last visit was my most difficult of the week. Not because the guy was mean, in fact he was exceptionally nice and glad to see someone, and he really wanted to talk. It was a bad deal because he could not hear. I spoke up, louder, louder, and louder and yet the man could not hear anything I was saying. He then broke off into a story about some hearing aids that he purchased for thousands of dollars that never worked at all and after using several curse words and saying some things so fast that I could barely make it out I tried to speak again, only to get a “Huh? I can’t hear you.” Everything I said was to no avail because he couldn’t hear me. So I finally just had to wave to let him know I was leaving and he thanked me, said it was nice to meet me and I left waving. I know the guy has no clue who I was, and I have no clue who he was or why he was there… the only thing I know is that he bought some expensive hearing aids and the didn’t work.

Enemy Within.jpg I finished the book The Enemy Within by Kris Lundgaard today. It was a pretty good book about the power of sin and how it is defeated. This book was actually written and taken from a couple works that were written by John Owen. The whole premise of the book is to basically explain what sin is, its particular nature, and what we as humans living with sin must do about it. It is meant to help focus your mind on what sin is in your life so that you can recognize it and take the necessary steps to defeat it. I really enjoyed the read and I will probably need to read it again just to refresh my mind now and then about the power of the flesh that leaves us in a constant struggle each day.

To put the icing on the cake, the last part of my strange day was my trip to St. Louis. We went to see The Village, which is an ok film but nothing to write home about. The other thing we went to do was to take Michael out for his 38th birthday, which is on Monday. Knowing that his favorite restaurant was Red Lobster I just knew that is what he would pick to eat and so I set my wallet and my taste buds for some tasty seafood this evening. When I pulled into Gumbo Bottoms/Chesterfield Commons I told Michael he could eat anywhere he wanted for his birthday tonight, and knowing that he would choose Red Lobster I was preparing to pull in there when suddenly he says, “Olive Garden.” In that very moment the space time continuum ruptured and the world as we knew it came unglued, time stopped, earthquakes rolled through the hills of Missouri and the earth cracked open to swallow us whole! We all sat in utter amazement at Michael’s choice. It was so strange, especially when we were all so sure that he would choose Red Lobster, because he always has. Amazing, simply amazing.

This wraps up my strange day, and now I am going to take some time to view this new Fuel material released from LifeWay Christian Bookstores. It’s supposed to be good. We’ll see.

    House Sitting

    July 29, 2004 @ 2:51 pm by Pressed

I have been house/dog sitting for my pastor all this week while he is on vacation. The real reason that I am staying at his house is because of their dog, Beamer. The Perry’s didn’t really want to leave him in a kennel and thought it would be better if someone would stay with him, so I agreed to stay and watch the dog. It’s pretty easy stuff. Feed him twice a day, take him out to go potty in the morning, afternoon, and evening times, and that’s about it. He has several toys that he likes you to throw so that he can chase them down all throughout the house, which can be quite amusing. During this little chapter in my life I have learned several things about this dog:

    1. He likes to run around in hyperactivity mode, come at you with full speed and force and then jump with both legs extended directly into your groin area. This may not be as painful for the females as it is for the males, but let me just say that I have been taken out a couple times this week already.

    2. He likes to roll around in the nastiest, stinky smelling stuff he can find and then sit under you during dinner so that you can hardly eat because of the wretched smell of death emitting from him. I took care of this problem by filling up the bathtub and dumping him in. I found the doggy soap and me and Beamer had a little bathing party. Unfortunately Beamer was not the only one to get completely soaked during this little adventure. The floors, walls, my clothes, and everything else was covered in water and doggy suds.

    3. The only way to get this dog to go poop is to say the special code word. All week I have been trying to get him to go potty outside and he never would. He would hold it in and go in the house. I couldn’t figure it out, because I took him outside often and for long periods of time. I called the pastor and told him of the problem and here is what he said to do, “Well you have to take Beamer out to the tall grass and then say to him, ‘Beamer go poo-poo.’” To this I was skeptical and thought it was a joke. So I went back to the house, took him out to the tall grass, and I said, “Beamer, go poo-poo.” And he did! I couldn’t believe it, the dog needs a code word to go to the bathroom outside. Sheesh.

    4. He has big claws. I was getting him all worked up, playing around with him and he was jumping around when suddenly he landed on my face. Unfortunately for me his big ole claws sunk into my face and scratched my nose half off. It was a painful experience. After a few minutes of screaming and holding my face he decided to just lick me instead. *sigh*

    5. He likes to terrorize the poor neighborhood dog that is stuck in a fenced yard. Beamer hears him barking and then goes strutting over there as if to say, “look at me, I am not stuck in a cage like you!”

I have about four more days of dog baby-sitting. We’ve gotten along so far, so I am not too worried about the days to come.

John Kerry: A Riddle Wrapped In An Enigma Shrouded In Mystery

    July 28, 2004 @ 9:13 am by Pressed

Do the people really know who John Kerry is? This is a very good question and one that I am not sure I quite know the answer to myself. The Democratic National Convention and John Kerry himself say one thing, but his actions, his life, and the things he votes for and does says another. It looks to me like Kerry will say or do anything to get the big win even if it means flip flopping on issues or just flat out lying. Unfortunately there are people willing to vote for him even though they know nothing about him. On the internet you can find a wide variety of information dealing with John Kerry. Some for him, some against him. On a quest to discover the “real” Kerry I am providing for you several websites and news articles so that you can discover who Kerry really is for yourself.

First of all there is a story written by NewsMax.com about John Kerry flipping off a Vietnam veteran that has been spread around on the net. The story speaks of John Kerry giving Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret who served two full tours in Vietnam, the bird while he was at the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Due to the poor reputation of Sampley and the lack of any other evidence other than NewsMax, I am inclined not to believe this story. I’m afraid I will need some more proof before I go believing that, not that I don’t think Kerry is capable of it. john_f_kerry_stack_1.Par.0001.ImageFile.jpg

While Kerry is on the road to becoming the Commander and Chief of the United States of America he regularly mentions his Vietnam War combat experience, during which he received three Purple Hearts, the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. Because of his achievements in the military he wants the people of America to know that he is quite capable of leading our Armed Forces. However, with further study of Kerry’s military experience I see a huge RED FLAG! There are a number of articles that reveal Kerry’s true patriotism, here is just a couple. Warning: Kerry is a deceiver and here is why.

    1. He turned on his own kind and denounced America and wrote a book that he now doesn’t want you to see. Once Kerry returned from enduring his long, hard, and dangerous 4 month tour of duty (which makes him a war expert I’m sure) he became a celebrated organizer for one of America’s most extreme appeasement groups, Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He consorted with the likes of “Hanoi” Jand Fonda (blah) and Ramsey Clark, Lyndon Johnson’s radical former attorney general. When Kerry ran for the U.S. House of Representative in 1972 he decided to suppress reproduction of the cover picture appearing on his own book. It depicted several unkempt youths crudely handling an American flag to mock the famous photo of the U.S. Marines at Iwo Jima. Suddenly copies of the book became unavailable and disappeared from libraries. Here is a photo of the front cover of Kerry’s book that you might have difficulty finding today. This is the type of person Kerry is, do we really want that in the oval office?

    2. He threw metals, he threw ribbons, some were his, some were not, fact is he is a deceiver. What Kerry makes himself out to be today is a far cry from what he was back then as the leader of the VVAW in the early 1970s. Kerry led members of the VVAW to take off all their metals and ribbons in protest during which they threw their own medals and ribbons over a fence in front of the U.S. Capitol. How is it that Kerry threw his metals away and yet now has them to show off to the public during his campaign? Easy one, Kerry later admitted that the medals he threw over the wall were not his own, but the ribbons were. To this day his metals hang in his office while he led countless numbers of other people to toss their metals away in protest. Some leader huh?

“The fun part of the story is about the lying Kerry did later. At one point, he said he didn’t throw his own medals because he didn’t have time to go home and get them. And also the dog ate them. Okay, he didn’t say that about the dog, but he might as well have. It’s about as credible. Think about it. He’s suggesting that in order to throw his medals over the fence, he would have to make a special trip, but luckily, he carried his ribbons with him wherever he went. Not even a brownie hound like Kerry is that compulsive. Kerry has also claimed he kept his own medals because they were important to him. That’s obviously the true story. He got three Purple Hearts for hangnails and dandruff and so on (I kid), and he got the Bronze Star and whatnot, and you don’t just throw stuff like that away if you’re an attention and glory junkie like Johnny Botox.” What Kerry really throws is B.S.

John Kerry likes to touch Edwards. There is a little John loving going on here, where is this coming from? I heard about this but never saw much on it until I visited Johnfnkerry.com. Quite humorous if you ask me.

John Kerry takes your money and he doesn’t even have to work for it.

“John Kerry, the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for President of the United States, has been taking advantage of American taxpayers – and he should be ashamed of himself.

Title 2, Section 39, of the United States Code clearly states that “[t]he Secretary of the Senate … shall deduct from the [salary] of each Member … the amount of his salary for each day that he has been absent from the Senate … unless such Member … assigns as the reason for such absence the sickness of himself or of some member of his family.”

The plain and unambiguous meaning of this statute is that a Senator who misses work doesn’t get paid – just like ordinary Americans. Unfortunately, the Secretary of the Senate, Ms. Emily Reynolds, has improperly, and inappropriately, declined to carry out her statutory duty – i.e. to dock the pay of Senators who miss work. When pressed, Ms. Reynolds explained, in a response to a letter by David Keene of the Carmen Group, that since her predecessors in the position failed to carry out the law, she won’t either. This reasoning is absurd – and unlawful.” -No Show Senator

A Vote For Kerry Is A Vote For Higher Gas Prices. In the Washington Times there is an article on Kerry’s fight to raise gas prices 50 cents per gallon.

He strongly advocated raising the federal gasoline tax by 50 cents per gallon. How strongly? Well, Mr. Kerry lambasted the deficit-fighting Concord Coalition for giving him a low score. Mr. Kerry, visibly angry (according to the Boston Globe), called the group’s scorecard “irresponsible.” He complained that it failed to reflect “my support for a 50-cent increase in the gas tax.”

Mr. Kerry’s 50-cent tax increase would have raised the price of gasoline to $1.61 per gallon in 1994. Adjusted for inflation since then, that price translates into $2.03 per gallon today.

John Kerry’s Wife. If she is any representation of what Kerry is like, wooo look out. Teresa Heinz calls us conservatives “un-American,” then lies about it, and then proceeds to storm up to a reporter and tell him to “shove it.” She needs to settle down…

Here is a very good website that shows Kerry on the Issues.

    Sites For Kerry:
    JohnKerry.com
    Kerry’s Online Office
    The official Kerry-Edwards Blog
The unofficial Kerry for President Blog
    Kerrygear.com

    Sites Against Kerry:

    JohnfnKerry.com
    ihatejohnkerry.com
    crushkerry.com
    Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry
    kerrycore.com
    BlogsforBush.com

These are just a few of the many sites where you can find information. Take it or leave it, just do your research. Kerry is full of contradiction and deceit and I don’t think America can afford this mistake. Christians, we need to be in the habit of voting values, those that uphold the moral integrity of Scripture. I’m afraid you won’t be finding those values held up by John Kerry or the DNC, but don’t take my word for it. Look for yourself.
