I just spent the evening up at the church installing new microphones. We now have 6 UHF Lapels and 4 UHF wireless microphones in the auditorium. Our Easter cantata has six different people who speak at the same time for the drama part, so in order to hear all of their speaking parts we purchased 3 new lapels and ‘borrowed’ one from the youth room. Five of the six lapel’s are Audio Technica and the sixth one is a Shure ULX Lapel system that I purchased to upgrade the pastor’s microphone. The ATs sound ok, however, the Shure ULX Lapel flat blows the others away. It is a warm, clear, thick sound that no other lapel compares to. It was really expensive, but it is really nice.
We have been having a problem with ringing in the microphone because the pastor’s voice echoes off of the plexi-glass top on the podium and causes a ringing noise. The louder you turn his mic up the worse it gets. We’ve had to keep his mic down low to avoid ring, which also causes all of the hard of hearing people to turn up their hearing aids. However, after a little research I purchased a Uni-directional cardioid mic so that it wouldn’t pick up any sound below it. It works perfectly. Now I just wish we would have bought a nice one like this instead of the other lapels we bought several years ago, because we have been putting up with a couple poor sounding lapels for a long time now.
I also ordered another Beta 87 head for one of our wireless mics. That will give us 4 wireless mics with the Beta 87 head, which in my opinion is the best sounding microphone there is. It’s a really nice set up if we could just get a new soundboard now. Ours is getting so old it has a short in almost every channel now. That upgrading process is coming soon….

On another note, I stayed up late last night studying for my Greek test today. I even got up early to study this morning and studied a little bit in the car on the way to seminary. When I show up and walk in I found out that we will not be having the test this week because someone (not naming any names) forgot to run copies of the test. I could have went to bed early last night! *sigh*
Unfortunately I am flooded with homework. I have two tests due next Monday and a paper that was due today that I have yet turn in. On top of all that I have piles and piles of reading to do, and yet I can never find time to get all of this done. I will be leaving this Thursday to go down to Texas for Youth Lab and so I only have a couple days to get as much homework done as I can. This should be interesting.
Pressed

One day…hopefully..all this homework and all these tests and so much lack of sleep will be worth it. It’s the getting everything done when it’s supposed to be that’s the hard part. You will, though, you always do…if not, you could just be a youth minister at Temple forever.

I am looking forward to hearing Scott preach with the new mic.
It sounds really good. Too bad you’ll have to wait two weeks. *smirk*
