Avoiding Evil

“Examine everything carefully…abstain from every form of evil.”

Tonight, out of the blue, I went to my dads house and we started talking about guns. I am getting ready for turkey season and I was asking about some of the guns that we have at the house. While broaching the subject I suddenly had this feeling building up inside of me. A very familiar feeling that often overtakes me in moments like this and the next thing I know we are in the truck driving to look at some guns. We went to a pawn shop, a gun shop, Wal-mart, and then drove an hour to Galyans, and then another 30 minutes to Bass Pro. Finally at Bass Pro I found a wide selection of guns that I just happened to be interested in.

I must tell you, I have a very difficult time making decisions. I have been wanting a new shot gun for a long time now but I never could bring myself to spend the money. Tonight, however, I had the bug and was determined to buy one. The only problem was there were several different choices and I just couldn’t make a decision. After nailing it down to two different guns I began to ponder the pros and cons of both. One was a Remington 870 Express 12 Gauge with this brand new camo pattern that I really liked. If I bought that gun I would have to buy a choke tube, a swivel kit, and a strap, which was an extra $75 on top of the $400 price tag. However, Bass Pro was having a big sale on another gun that was way cheaper than the Remington and it came with its own choke tube, strap, hard case, and all… My problem was that this other gun was not a big name brand and was not as tight and well built as the Remington… But it was cheaper. *sigh* So I walked around for about an hour trying to decide what I wanted to do. In the mean time my dad was going insane wanting me to hurry up and pick one.

After we had been there well over an hour I finally go back up to the counter and begin asking a few more questions. Within just a few minutes I had purchased a new gun. Unfortunately it was a completely different gun than the two I had pondered over for an hour and a half. I came away from bass pro with a Remington 870 SPS-T Super Mag shot gun. It came with choke tubes, a swivel strap, and is completely covered in Mossy Oak Camo. I now have a lot less money too… I have to say a small word of thanks to the government for giving me my tax money back and allowing me to purchase this nice new turkey gun. As for making decisions… I don’t know what to do with myself.

All I have to say is that any turkey that knows what’s good for him better keep at least 65 yards between him and the muzzle of that Remington.
