I have been back from the mission trip for awhile but things have yet to slow down. I wanted to sit down and take some time to blog, but being out of the routine of school and in the crazy schedule of summer I find myself lacking in the area of blog entries and since I have not blogged in awhile I have a lot of catching up to do. So strap on your seat belt as we take a trip through the past week of my life…

SATURDAY, JULY 5, 2003 - Returning Home From Charleston

We returned home from the mission trip around 4:00. It took awhile to put everything up and take care of the stuff that needed to be done so I didn’t stroll into my house until almost 7:30. Then I spent the evening unpacking, washing clothes, opening mail, and so on. It is unbelieveable how much travelling can just wear you out because I was completely out of it and really could have went to bed when I got home and slept all night.

SUNDAY, JULY 6, 2003 - Mission Trip Presentation

When we go on a mission trip we always have a presentation for the church on the Sunday after we return home. It took all afternoon to plan and organize the stuff for the evening service. I spent my time making an order of service and trying to get everyone where they needed to be and Chris spent his time working on the video presentation that was given.

We wanted it to be a worship service more than some kind of youth spotlight and so we had people guarding each door of the sactuary letting people know that they should enter quietly and in a spirit of prayer. As the adults entered into the sactuary we had students on the inside praying over the people as they walked through the doors so that everyone who came into the sanctuary was prayed for. Once everyone was in there we started with a baptism and then did worship. We had on adult testimony and 2 youth testimonies and then several youth and adult testimonies on the video presentation that we recorded in Charleston. We also had youth praying and reading scripture. It was extremely cool and worshipful and the best thing of all is the turn out of people. The sanctuary was packed full of adults which was pretty cool for a Sunday night youth presentation. This makes the 7th one I have been a part of in our church and I would venture to say that it has been the best one yet.

MONDAY, JULY 7, 2003 - A Normal Day

Nothing but staff meetings and work. Not much worth writing about.

TUESDAY, JULY 8, 2003 -A Big Fish

On Tuesday I went trout fishing at Montauk State Park with Le Renard. It was a nice relaxing day that I really enjoyed. I did lose a really big fish which flopped right out of my dip net and broke my line. I was so excited about catching this big ole fish and I was trying to get it on my stringer when apparently the cousin of this fish who was already on my string began his rescue mission. He flopped about until I lost control of the stringer, then he flopped so hard that he smacked the other fish sending him plummeting out of my dip net and back into the water. Needless to say I was not happy at that point in life. But then not too long after that I caught an even bigger fish which just happens to be the biggest trout I have caught to date weighing in at a little under 2 pounds. It may not sound very big, but it is big for trout.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9, 2003 -Youth Group Fireworks/BBQ Celebration!

Because we were on the mission trip during the 4th of July we decided to have church out at someones house. We made BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs, played washers, frisbee, had a small bible study and then waited till dark for the fireworks to begin. One of my youth had recieved over $300 worth of free fireworks and so we got quite a display. Too bad the wind was blowing the direction everyone was sitting and all the blown up firework pieces were floating over and landing on peoples heads and clothes and in their drinks. Those shooting fireworks thought everyone was cheering and having a good time because of the fireworks, but it just so happens that everyone was screaming at the loads of burnt paper flopping down in their eyes.

THURSDAY, JULY 10, 2003 -Harry Potter Is Coming To A Close!

I read a whole lot of Harry Potter trying to get to the end. I probably spent a good 4 to 5 hours of my day reading, but still didn’t make it to the end of the book. I am close though.

I also had to make a fun little trip to Rolla today because a certain someone forgot their keys and couldn’t get into their apartment. I did get a free lunch of it.

A Future Forcast -Kansas City Time

I have to go to school all next week so I will be in the Kansas City Area for the whole week. My car is not being fixed yet, even though it has been almost two and a half weeks since it was stolen and so who knows what I will be driving when I get there.

Anyway, gotta go make some decisions about my afternoon. Later

Still Hanging On

This is the 5th day of our mission trip and the 2nd day of our ministry tracks. Yesterday was a bummer of a day for me. First thing in the morning I was walking through the grass and as I looked around I saw nothing but grass. nice, green, glistening, beautiful grass. Little did I know hidden under that grass in front of me was a small drainage ditch containing the most disgusting mud ever known to man. I then walked into the hidden swamp and both of my feet sunk completely under the ground covering my shoes and pant legs with mud. Then the nastiness leaked into my shoe and soaked my sock with disease filled nappy water from some unknown terrorist group in the state of South Carolina (my theory anyway). So I went to breakfast muddy and very unhappy. We then went to our ministry site and had 3 kids show up and some strange guy with pockets filled with fireworks and a lighter he was playing with in front of 20 teenagers. That is a disaster waiting to happen if you ask me, the guy was very strange. To top it all of the blazing sun scorched the top of my head and my legs.

Later we went to “The Original Crab House” on Market St. in downtown Charleston. The food was great even though it took me almost 30 minutes to find a parking spot. One thing about the city of Charleston, it is pretty with lots of old buildings but there is no place to park.

I find myself looking around this week and seeing and being a part of so many things going on that I just want to slow down and take it easy but can’t. Tonight I did take a little time just to sit out by the huge fountain in the front and ponder… it was a good alone time for me.

Pressed - and not yet crushed.
