I am here in Kansas City again taking a week long class at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The last time I came down here I concluded that Kansas City was a big nasty pit, but now that I have visited a second time I am concluding once more that this place is simply wretched. For some odd reason MoDot decided to start working on every major intersection in the entire city and so there are fifteen different detours you have to take in order to get to the road you actually want to be on, not to mention the termoil you go through when you realize the road you want is the road that you’re on, even though it isn’t the name of the road you are supposed to be on it is still the same road. Apparently certain parts of the city decided to change the names of sections of the road out of the pure evil that is potruding from their blackened hearts. Of course not all of Kansas City is bad, just the northern part where the school is located. I did end up in a wal-mart that was about the size of Arkansas and I walked around amazed at the enormous size of such a building and they do have a 24 AMC theater that rocks, and of course best of all there is a Cabela’s here.
When I arrived here on Sunday I realized that they didn’t have me coming in until Monday so I did not have a room for that night. In fact the room that is mine now was occupied by a large family of four who had already been there for an entire week. With no where else to go I proceeded upstairs to the dorm area where all the students stay and I found an empty room to hide in and sleep for the night, so I actually got away with a free nights lodging… I am glad to have a room to myself though, I have my fridge all stocked with peanut butter and jelly, turkey sadwiches, hot pockets, potato chips, water, and mountain dew… Sounds healthy huh?
We have class everyday from 9:00 in the morning to 3:50 in the afternoon which isn’t bad at all compared to the 9-5 I did last time I came down here. In fact the professor let us out at 12:30 today and so I have the rest of the afternoon off to study and read and develop my theological precepts at which I am going to drive down to Cabela’s instead.

On another note I called my insurance adjuster about my car again today. He said that he is still waiting on the police report, (3 weeks ago to this day my car was stolen) because the first two electronic checks he tried to issue didn’t go through so it extended the time about 15 to 20 days. He finally issued a hand written check last week when I called and now he is waiting on a police report that he should have already recieved. Then he has to turn it over to another guy who has to do more investigation on the whole thing because apparently the ignition in my car was not busted or wired in anyway. The thief broke into my car, but didn’t hot wire it and so they have to do extra investigating before they will let the place start repair work on my car. So my car is setting at some body shop, where it has been for 3 weeks now, and it will continue to set there while the insurance company plays around and then when they finally decide to start the work on it (my guess is next week) it will take another 2 to 3 weeks before my car is actually fixed and ready for me to get it. The only thing I can think of now is, I AM THE VICTIM! Come on people lets get a system that actually works!
Well now that I am all worked up I better go to Cabela’s and cool down before I say something nasty.
Pressed

Sorry you’re having such a lousy time in my old home town. I know, NKC sucks. I lived there and went to school there through high school. It didn’t seem so bad then but that was a long time ago.
Stop by the In-a-Tub at Antioch shopping center and order a few of the “hot” tacos at the food court. It’s really the only reason left to go N. of the River unless you go to Platte County. Then for some fun on the weekend ride on down to the Country Club Plaza and do some shopping and have lunch at one of the many restaurants and tour the area. Still very nice down there. Then if you’re feeling generous write an addendum to your KC rant. I think that’s what Jesus would do, even if He was from St. Louis…HA!
You are correct in your evaluation that Kansas City is a wretched place but not for the reasons you write about. It’s wretched in its spiritual deadness. Instead of complaining about the road repairs, how about praying that our Sovereign God would raise up faithful pastors and churches that bodly preach the Word of God in power in order that HIS chosen will come to faith through the hearing of the Word. Pray that God’s people will ashamedly put away their sinful silence and start proclaiming the Supremacy of Christ in all things. Remember your basic theology the next time you feel complelled to label a city a pit or wretched place…all cities, including the one you live in, are wretched pits and nothing they have to offer in the way of shopping, restaurants, movie theaters, or any other thing that man, idolizes above God, surpasses the unquestionable glory of Christ.
Greg,
Time to loosen up man! This entry was meant to be funny, and KC being a wretched place has some hidden significance between me and my friends that you would know nothing about. My blog is a personal weblog that is intended to be full of both serious and spiritual things plus, fun and even personal things and frankly I don’t see any problem with what I wrote. I know my theology, I know people are dieing and going to hell but if that shouldn’t be all I ever write. I can still complain about the blasted roads if I want to, and in fact I should do that very thing because this is a web journal. How ’bout you remove your plank before you go removing my speck.
is this the same Greg that has posted on nearly every Christian blog i read talking about how people should stay away from Darren’s Blog because he is a liberal and has un-Biblical ideas?
Kansas City is a terribly wretched and miserable place to live. I can’t wait until the day that I move away from this place!!! I moved here sight unseen from Seattle (which is a nice place to live) with Sprint. If I had visited here first I would have said “NO”! Kansas City will not improve until they do something about the schools. My property will never be worth what it should be. In CNN polls Kansas City ranks at #2 in the nation for the worst roads. And # 3 for the most unsafe places in the U.S. to live (based on the crime rates, etc.) I won’t even talk about the weather. It really sucks. It’s HOT…it’s COLD…it’s HOT again…It’s even HOTTER…It’s over 100 and is hasn’t rained in months! Kansas City is dirty and unkept. I’m taxed to death to live here…and I couldn’t tell you where my taxpayers dollars are going…because I don’t see any improvements at all! The cars on the roads looks as if they are about ready to fall apart. Those emission standards sure mean something huh? Considering that some backwards redneck in his garage is where you go to have your vehicle inspected, I’m not surprised. You could slip them five bucks and they’re happy to put the sticker in your window! The drivers don’t even bother to follow simple rules of the road. I think they make them up as they go along. Basically, if you can fit your car there…it must be OK. Oh yes…I almost forgot…we rank #1 for the most automobile accidents caused by drunk drivers. That makes me feel even more unsafe. I work downtown which totally sucks. You can’t even walk down the street without some bum asking you for money or someone who wants to pull you aside and preach to you about their God. I can’t even go on because it’s makes me sick. Oh yes…last but not least…the CHIEFS SUCK! There…that should make everyone mad.
Dave or Valerie or whatever your name is… Man you need to check your self before you start ranting and raving on topics that you don’t have a clue on.
First, I don’t think anyone who has half a brain would move to a new city without checking it out first. So that’s your first dumb move.
Second, where in the heck are you getting all these stats about the safest places to live? I’m gonna make that your second dumb move for believeing garbage like that or perhaps that is your wishful thinking of creating an unrealistic wreckless world that you obviously want to be in. Third…Chiefs - Royals have history and heritage. Both have won championships in their histories and both have a loyal fan base. In fact there is sports bar in downtown Philly called Big Charlies which is stictly a Chiefs bar that fans in Philly go too to watch all the Chiefs games. My point is the Chiefs have a strong fan base as oppose to your lonely Seahawks who have had nothing over the years besdies Steve Larget. Get over yourself would you. Screw it! I’m done wasting my time with a dummy.
You sad people. I have lived in Aruba (that’s an island in the Caribbean about 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela), Atlanta, Orlando, Keystone Colorado and now, once again, in Kansas City. For those of you whose ignorance is apparent, here’s a little advice. Attitude. That’s it. It’s not the place that you live in, but the attitude that you carry with you wherever you go. My least favorite city…Orlando by far. The state of Florida just doesn’t do it for me. Too flat…flatter than Kansas. Only good part is the beach and the latin women.
But, back to KC. It’s a great midwestern city with excellent BBQ, super sports teams, clean air, fine dining and a great night life. It’s got something for everyone, but is easily navigated with a map and patience for a noob. Sure there’s construction since it’s growing…that’s life, get over it. I just traveled to Phoenix and Tempe for the Fiesta Bowl. How sad it was that all of the night life closed at 12:30am. KC bars stay open until 3am usually. I’ll never go back to Phoenix. If I travel to AZ again, it will be to visit the beautiful Grand Canyon for a second time. If you haven’t been, stop reading and go NOW!
Anyway, I can tell this site isn’t about bars or the grand canyon or anything like that, but I will repeat that if you have a positive attitude you will enjoy yourself anywhere and will make friends anywhere. Someday hopefully all reading this will take that to heart. Enjoy yourselves wherever you are and have a great 2004!
Geez, it’s just a little sarcasm people. No need to get all ‘postal.’ Since everyone is taking it personally I think it’s time to close down the comments on this particular post… sheesh!
